How I got into science
I started in nursing, working closely with patients, including those with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. Being part of their care was meaningful, but it also made me realize I wanted to understand more than just the clinical side.
Seeing how memory and independence gradually fade made me question what was happening beyond what we could treat. That’s when I felt drawn toward neuroscience — not suddenly, but gradually, moving from wanting to care for patients to wanting to understand the biology behind what they were experiencing.
Non-science biography
I was born and raised in a small town in Iran, before eventually making my way to the U.S., where I’ve lived in Rhode Island, California, and now Boston. Moving between places has definitely shaped me, especially learning how to feel at home in completely new environments. Staying active has always been a big part of my life, and these days that usually means running, working out, or swimming. I also love to travel and explore new places whenever I get the chance. When I’m not doing any of that, I’m most likely spending time with my cat.

What I look for in a scientist
I look for someone who’s passionate, curious, and creative, but also a critical thinker and easy to collaborate with.
